Wow! The email has been flooded by attendees of the conference regarding this subject so it just have been good. The notes and materials are available. It includes components, goodies, materials we used to prepare and research, demos and more. Waste today playing around with everything and find new and exciting ways to extend your Flash applications and browser.

In addition there is a new forum you will definitely want to check out called Flash Platform Developers Community Forum. It is geared towards higher end development using Flash and Flex. It is also a place to post questions regarding this topic. Tyler and I want to thank you for the comments and hope you have fun with all of the things we are sharing!

Filed under: Articles — Robert Taylor at 9:18 pm on Thursday, September 14, 2006

FYI: I am making some changes to the site so that when the notes are delivered there will be a forum for any questions / discussion. They will be posted up on Friday. I am also adding some additional notes for things that were not discussed or covered due to time. Thanks for your patience. Check back on Friday for the notes for both sessions. Thanks. Rob
I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on the two sessions I presented at Flash Forward. I am working on gathering up the examples in an orderly manor. They will be available this next week for download. If you have any questions regarding either session, feel free to contact me. Also Fontastic will be available for download this next week along with the other components demonstrated.

Thanks again. Hope you had a great FlashForward week. I met some new friends and it was incredible to see the amazing things that were being done by the Flash community!

Flash Forward 2006

Filed under: Articles — Robert Taylor at 8:04 am on Wednesday, September 6, 2006

This week I will be doing some final preparations for the Flash Forward conference in Austin, TX and then next week I will be presenting on two topics: Browser Power for Flash and Multilingual Flash Applications. I hope both to be informative and motivational! New videos will not be released during this time. I will be posting up the final video to the Getting Primitive with Data Types. After Flash Forward, there will be some great improvements to the site! Many of you have written in suggestions and I have carefully considered each one. I hope that you will find the new changes ameable and intuitive.

I will also be conducting a survey regarding the direction of the site, topics and expansion. So be looking for that in the upcoming newsletter. In the meantime, if you are planning to attend the conference, be sure to come up to me and tell me who you are! Have a great week!

Daily Video: Lesson 26 part 1 – Storing and Accessing Data in SWFs

Filed under: Announcements — Robert Taylor at 9:11 am on Tuesday, August 29, 2006

This lesson is part of the Getting Primitive with Data Types series:

We will briefly look at storing and accessing data in MovieClips. This will prepare us for our next lesson, storing data in a SWF. I also decided to treat you to more than just learning about storing properties and functions inside of a MovieClip. We go over class definitions, properties, functions and how to switch MovieClip parents (not joking!) without losing data and maintaining our state between parent switching. A real treat for those who have previously thought this was impossible!

I am really excited to share this class with you. It allows to serialize and deserialize an object to an xml back to an object. Create about 3 years ago, this has existed as a main stable in my class repository for building applications, storing and retrieving data from files and servers. I hope it benefits you as much as it has me. This XML to Object class if very different from others out there. We will go over the basics on how to use it and deploy successful conversions both from XML files and Native Flash Objects.
