Upcoming Video Tutorials - Flex 2

Filed under: Articles — Robert Taylor at 9:19 am on Monday, October 9, 2006

If you haven’t noticed the website has (and is) undergoing a major reconstruction in preparation for some expansions. However, the great new is that new tutorials will become available this week on Flex 2. This subject is humongous so this is how it is going to be broken down:

  • How Flex Works - This video series highlights the features that we will learn about in the upcoming videos. It is not meant to teach but rather show you some of the things to look forward to. (This series has been produced and will become available this week).
  • Getting Started with Flex - This video series is more like a mini-workshop. We will briefly go over how to code up a subject. Details regarding all the means to use the subject at hand will not be discussed. It is meant more as a jump start for you to know that 1) it is possible, and 2) how to do it.
  • Flex Workshops - Each set of videos in the series will go deeper into related subjects outlined in the Getting Started with Flex. There may be some overlap, but for the most part it will discuss further the topics you have begun to get familiar with. Each set will continue to grow as questions are asked in the forums or new methods are discovered.
  • Flex Tips & Tricks - This series covers a genre of tips that will help you improve productivity and design for your Flex applications. Some of these tips may be discussed elsewhere in another video, but this way you can find items specifically without fumbling through hours of videos to find what you need.
  • ActionScript 3.0 - This will be broken out into its own category as needed. These are topics relating to the language itself and less on the the Flex 2 environment and framework (though some items may use both). Here you can learn the things you need to know regarding AS3 that will move go expand both the Flex and Flash 9 authoring environments.

Since this series is just getting started many of these topics are future releases. It is my goal to release both How Flex Works and Getting Started with Flex this week. I would also like to release some Flex Tips and Tricks as well, but we shall see about that one. You will notice that the upcoming videos are condensed in nature. I am working on releasing videos that are around 5 mins and for in-depth video topics they may go up to 10 mins. If you would like participate in providing videos regarding Flex or Flash, feel free to do so! You will be accredited for the work and compensated for your contribution.

Will you be covering new Flash topics?

Yes. Flash is not dead, nor am I done with it. There are many topics to yet cover. I just wanted to outline what I was planning on doing for Flex 2. There seems to be an overwhelming interest in the subject and so to accomodate viewers I am now starting the video series.

If you have any questions regarding upcoming videos feel free to contact me.
