Ugh! Me know Flash. Going to teach you stuff…Okay. Hopefully its not that primitive. This series will go over a topic I love to ponder - primitives in ActionScript . “Why?”, you might say. Because how you handle, access and maintain these datatypes can severily affect the performance of your application. (Read on …)

Back to the Timeline

If you hadn’t been checking recently, FE has been doing a series on Timeline management. It covers both the IDE in the Flash Authoring Environement and ActionScript to manage and control timeline features. There are quite a few tips and tricks I have provided along the way. I wanted to make it different from any other tutorials that have covered this topic in the past. I delivered it with the content I felt would help anyone needing to use the timeline in real-world situations. The lessons also cover important topics such as dealing with framerate, code organization on the timeline and useful alghorithms to manipulate tweens on the screen. If you haven’t already done so check it out. (This series is available to members). Click here to visit.

Flex 2 and Flash Developers

At our Flash developers user group last night we had a great presentation on “Introduction to ActionScript 3″. We went into all the details of AS3, and techniques to migrate from AS2. AS3 brings to it the language support that many other languages already have. It will help the Flash Platform continue to lead in the leader of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs).
During the presentation, I couldn’t help but notice how powerful the Flex 2 editor was! Here are some of the things that it can do:

Getting Smart with the Timeline

This article is part of Getting Back to the Basics:
The timeline works much like a movie. For each timeline, you can only view one frame at a time. However, where it differs is that you can have any number of movies playing at the same time. The timeline has only but a handful of functions and properties: (Read on …)

In recent years, Flash has emerged as one of the leaders for building Rich Internet Applications. This has lead many people from different backgrounds to develop with it. Maybe you are a developer with a different background and you have now found yourself needing to learn Flash because a client or project requires it. Maybe you are a designer trying to increase your skillset and portfolio. Maybe you’re none of the above and want to see what Flash is all about. Either way, Flash has entered your life and you need to know how to work with it, not against it! (Read on …)

The Future of Flash

The other day I was asked to fill out a questionnaire about Flash. There were two questions that got me thinking, so I thought I would share with you my responses:

What do you think are the most profound ways Flash® will effect your industry?

As more mobile devices include the Flash Player, it will create an industry of new developers specializing in providing rich real-time applications with a small footprint. Flash applications will become standardized as the means to distribute information over mobile devices over the next several years. (Read on …)

Extending Flash Extensions with a Blog

Filed under: Articles — Robert Taylor at 8:28 am on Wednesday, June 7, 2006

I decided to go the more traditional route and use a widely-used blog engine rather than my own. The advantages will be that you can subscribe to it. It is accepted in general by the community and there is not a way I could keep up with the features that are available by other blog engines like Wordpress.

Through FE Blog, you will be able to receive information more quickly. There are also subjects, techniques, and things I find in the Flash industry that just don’t fit with the current website. This will give me an opportunity to discuss them. This will also be a way for me to make announcements more readily as they happen. The newsletter will summarize many items I have posted on the blog, but it will still contain items that will not be posted.
